On the future of green finance at the GreenTech conference
EXIM is committed to the spread of green technologies and their financing – Gábor Szőcs, director of EXIM and contact person with the World Bank, commented on in his presentation entitled Sustainable Financing, Greening Exports on GreenTech conference on 25th September, in Zalaegerszeg.
Today, six of the seven most significant global challenges are related to the environment, the climate – which is why, like the UN, the EU is pushing for sustainable developments. International financiers and export credit agencies, including EXIM, are also committed to this field – both from their financing policies and from corporate social responsibility (CSR) point of view. The concept of green investment has a very strict set of criteria, but it is worthwhile to meet them: the OECD estimates that investments that integrate climate protection goals can increase GDP by one percentage point in as little as four years and increase by as much as 4.7% by 2050 at a global level- the presentation said. EXIM has also been involved in two large-scale international green projects in recent years: in Ghana, it has financed a liquid waste facility under an 11 million EUR development that has improved the quality of life for hundred thousands of people; and a water purification investment in Vietnam has made the lives of about 13,000 households significantly more comfortable. Internationally, the number of open tender opportunities in the field of environmental protection exceeds thirteen thousand – there are also many attractive opportunities for Hungarian companies.
